Legendary Mapper
This suggestion primarily applies for the 24/7 2Fort/Turbine/Hightower servers as so many players go on Skial's 24/7 servers to goof off and have fun without an objective in mind.

Some things to consider

  • We already ignore the friendlying rule on servers like Idle, Trade, Surf, Orange, and Deathrun
  • Our more objective orientated servers have a map pool, such as VSH, FF2, Payload, and ZE. So friendlying rule makes sense
  • We already ignore the friendlying rule when the majority of the server is friendly, as it is clear the objective of the server goers at that time are to friendly.
  • 2Fort, Turbine, and Hightower are considered the non-official sandbox maps of TF2, not many players play for the objective on these maps, instead play for TDM or other shenanigans, such as trolldier, 1v1s, or friendly.
For as long as I remember, we've told players that wanted to friendly to go to our trade or idle server if they wanted to avoid being punished. Instead, I suggest we allow it on the 24/7 servers we have available, as many players look for these kind of servers to goof around in. I'm aware this idea will piss off serious TF2 players, but I thought it'd be worth a shot to be a little more fair to the players, and improve Skial's image.

+1 less reports will come in, less hassle and you can still kill on friendlies and stomp their guts.

think of the funniest shit of someone reporting a friendly on those servers if this passes, too good to pass on +1

-1.

Friendlies have servers they can go to if they want to friendly. 24/7 servers aren't necessarily for tryhards but people do go there to play. When one team has 5 friendlies on it, and the other team has none, it becomes completely unfun for the people trying to play.

i agree with you but think of how funny it would be

Comedy is good, but as someone who plays chiefly hightower, friendlies constantly try to voteban anyone who kills them, I'd rather not encourage the behavior.

Thats vote abuse then. There's no winning either way. There are people that try to voteban friendlies and ten they come here and whine.

YOU. DONT. WIN. EITHER. WAY.

Well technically the people who voteban friendlies are doing the right thing since friendlying is punishable, no?

I am simply saying that people go on those severs to play the game. If a portion of their team is friendlying, it becomes a situation where it's like 11 players vs 16. There are servers to already go to dick around in, why do we need that to carry over to servers where people go to actually play?

Good point. If I had a bunch of friendlies on my team and was actually sweating my fatass to win objectives I'd probably switch teams or leave the server. But not before calling my teammates mentally-deficient apes.

I play on these servers largely to avoid the toxicity and bot issues that casual is known for. I enjoy just casually playing TDM on 2fort because it is a safe and reliable way to simply play the game. It is extremely disappointing to log into the server only to multiple players friendlying, which easily can spread to cause the entire server to stop fighting. This defeats the entire purpose of me playing on said server, so I'm either forced to leave or attempt to restart the fighting by killing the friendlies. This happens quite often, and it causes me to play on the server less and less. Friendlies often tell me to play casual or competitive, likely unaware of how flawed official matchmaking is. If this passes, I can easily see this issue spreading to other Skial servers such as VSH, with friendlies using the excuse of "It's allowed on other Skial servers", not knowing or caring about the context. I largely only report friendlies on other gamemodes/servers, but I believe that this suggestion being approved will only cause more issues in the long run.

-1, but perhaps a slightly more relaxed take on friendlies would be in order. Oftentimes when I’m playing on the 2Fort server, people meet up in the sewer/bridge and dance for a few minutes. After getting killed 5/6 times, they generally stop and there’s no need to kick/ban someone. When the server is sitting at half population, you’d also not want to make other people leave because of a three-minute friendly ordeal.

Of course, you have the players who will friendly for their entire time on the server, and that would still be met with a kick/ban.

Turbine has at least 99% of the people playing the objective, Hightower seems less objective driven, but it's still competitive. 2fort is another ball game, doesn't seem like anyone on 2fort actually wants to cap anyway.

I'd dare to say 2fort is the main problem when it comes to friendlies, I'd agree that a more laid back approach on here would be warranted.

Don't think we tailor servers based on what's funny. Personally I would rather keep a clear distinction of what servers we have that are about dicking around (Trade) and what servers we have that are about killing people or at least playing semi-seriously (regular maps).
listen an actual thing would be a -1 but i am a man of funny so that is what i cast, tho it would get declined if you ask me

-1 Why the hell is everyone arguing just add a !friendly command if it's not there, kind of like passive mode in gta

+1 for this.

Being a temporary friendly for a minute or two to have a moment with a few players in 24/7 2fort/Turbine and then going back to business as usual shouldn't be punished the same way we punish people spending 10, 20, 30 or more minutes persistently friendlying/stalling, especially on an objective-focused server like VSH or Payload.

I'd rather we not do a like "You can friendly for a while" type of thing because people are just going to take that to mean it's ok to friendly in the servers. I mean, as long as they aren't being disrupting or being ridiculous with it, admins tend to give general warnings/ignore friendlies as is anyway right?

The problem with doing a like "you can friendly for a limited time" is that it may cause some confusion. I completely understand the logic behind it and think it's reasonable, but I think it's already kind of enforced in that way anyway, and it's better to just keep it outright banned while being a bit lax on enforcing it until it becomes server disrupting.
