in the days leading up to it I was doing Jungle Inferno contracts. as such, I knew Valve didn't disable sprays on their servers.

funny enough, I did pop into Idle last Friday and found that nobody put up any sprays, even after I did so

People say sprays are disabled on official servers. If you see one, its either your own or you had it downloaded somewhere already.

There are rumors that there is still a spray that can crash servers and I haven't really seen many complaints about sprays being disabled, so I am going to leave it off.

oh, so this is legit. and oh boy, did I need to clean my userspray cache.

I'm half-surprised Valve hasn't added an option to automatically clear the spray cache on game launch

Someone released a fix for this and I have adapted it to our servers. Sprays should be enabled now.

Cool, I can now get back to spraying a giant gleaming turd wherever an engineer faces his teleporter against the wall.... "that'll teach em"

Valve has released an official patch:
  • Added a tribute to Rick May, voice of the Soldier
  • Fixed a client crash related to malformed custom spray files
  • Fixed an exploit where sentry guns could fire through thin walls
  • Fixed confirm dialog showing the error model for some items when using paint cans
  • Updated the Aim Assistant and Telefragger Toque to fix jigglebones issues
  • Updated the ConTracker font to fix missing characters in some languages
  • Updated/Added some tournament medals
  • Updated the localization files
