Any other Warhammer 40k fans here? I know there's at least a few of us

I never played any of the tabletop games but I started looking into the lore and became a fan. Definitely a cut above your standard fantasy worlds now days, I highly recommend looking into it if anyone here hasn't

If you're new to Warhammer most people trying to get you into it would try to indoctrinate you with the lies of the "God Emperor" but we both know you're too smart for such lies so have some quality Chaos:

Maybe Chaos isn't your thing. In which case there's plenty of other flavors of heresy.

For example, there's always da boyz:

Or the biologically superior Tyranids:

And the Necrons:

I've always been pretty interested, but never had anyone to sink time with to get into it. There just seems to be so much lore and game mechanics, I'm planning on trying it out one day along with D&D

I'm sure @Defibyoulater will appreciate this thread tho

If you're looking into the lore for the first time and don't have much time to spare I'd recommend watching youtube videos like the ones I posted above. They condense a lot of lore down to something more digestible which got me into 40k in the first place

I am very proud to be some of the very few people who have played dawn of war (I & II) but havent played any race other than the Imperial Guard.

I really like the Mechanicus, I wish they had a good game covering them. (The one they released recently was pretty disappointing.)

I have a hunch that if they make a Hollywood tier warhammer film it will blow the entertainment market wide apart. Better than dinky Star wars

Is there any reason behind why they're not expanding that much into games / movies? I feel like there's plenty of material to work with but it doesn't seem to be getting used much in those two areas

Well ... it might be too much lore now that I think about it. But, apparently the in's at Games Workshop say they're too lazy, and they did make a movie but it was terrible which kind of caused GW to move away from them. A memory they try to forget.

I watched it and it was okay-ish. Seemed like some college goers' first try kind of thing.

ANYTHING IS GOOD. People are drawn in by the game cutscenes alone.

Was that the movie with Terence Stamp and John Hurt?

As one that knows almost next to nothing about Warhammer 40k before and after having seen that movie, I can confirm it was okay but not good enough to really make someone, or at least me, wanna dive down the rabbit hole. I only have ever heard of Warhammer outside of that from youtuber Ross Scott talking about it.

I wasn't obsessed with Warhammer 40K the point where I would have 40K-based memes to reply to everything with, as I've seen some people do on social media sites, however I can say I was a moderate fan of Warhammer 40K - as I played a lot of Dawn of War, Dawn of War: Dark Crusade, then Soulstorm then a little bit DoW II. My primary game was Dark Crusade, and with mod(s), but half the reason I even got into Dawn of War was because it used the Company of Heroes engine and I came from that game. I loved Chaos Space Marines, as well as Necrons, the other factions were a bit meh.

However, this was over 10 years ago, and it was because I actually liked RTS games back then. Not so much now. Lore wise, I'm not too into it, I don't know a lot, but I can tell you from what lurking around the internet, I'm a fan of Legion of the Damned (thanks to listening to some song called Audiomachine - Valhalla Rising on YouTube and doing some research on that image used in the video), as well as Death Korps of Krieg, just from how cool they look, though I forgot how I encountered them.
