Mildly Menacing Medic
Greetings, I'm not sure if you remember me, but a while back I asked about updating the US Trade server from trade_portal2_beta5 to trade_portal2_rev1. It was approved and put up on the server for a while...However after a little I believe the map was quietly changed back to the old map with no information as to why this occured.

So, I'll state two things.
First, I'd like to suggest to update the portal2_beta5 version to the (not-so-new anymore) portal2_rev2 since I added many changes to the newer version that many people suggested and requested.

Second, I am 100% okay with this getting declined, I would just like to have somebody explain to me either why it will get declined, or if they could explain what happened to the original one. I appreciate even the fact that the map even got placed on the server in the first place, and hopefully I can try to help out, if people want.

Thank you for your time.

I personally liked the map but since I don't trade much my opinion doesn't count for much.

You can see here by clicking on All, when we switched to your map, it caused the population to drop, and when we put it back on the old map, it went back up.

I see what you mean.
In all honesty I couldn't tell you what I think caused that slight drop in players.
It could very well be that the map wasn't enjoyed as much, or because of the fact that sometimes downloading new maps can give players a hard time connecting.

The map did recieve positive and negative feedback and it might be because of those reasons.
The update was to attempt to make it more acceptable and more like the Beta5 version.

It's your call, experiment with it and see if population drops, or just simply keep the map the same. As I stated, I am 100% okay with whatever happens.
If this offer is declined, please know that if I can make the map better or more fun in some way, please notify me.
I would hope that the reason why population dropped can be fixed by me and not some "downloading a new map" issue.

Thanks for your response, Bottiger.

i believe it's the same reason why my Trade NY map change petition hasn't been accepted. The download time of the new map turns a lot of people off. Plus people that are used to the old map and don't want to give a new map a try (or just simply don't like the new map)

I agree.
Downloading can make people turn away, however people get used to things after a while. Version Beta5 had to be updated from Beta4 and so on, and it has aged well.
I think more feedback from the community on their opinions of the new and old map could hold promising results on whether they would want a new map or not.

For me personally, I don't enjoy maps with "Fullbright" (or simply put, no proper lighting) and so I don't play on those maps as much.
However you will meet people who really don't care about the map as long as they have a place to buy and sell their items.

I think it boils down to preference, to be honest.

i think the old map was too dark and depressing, same with the one he's recommending but it comes down to what the majority of the players want
