Socotra Island - Yemen
Due to it's isolated location, 30% of it's plant life is not found anywhere else on earth.
It's been described as "the most alien looking place on earth"

Ahh. I remember watching a documentary on the island. Very interesting place

Explanation: The dust sculptures of the Eagle Nebula are evaporating. As powerful starlight whittles away these cool cosmic mountains, the statuesque pillars that remain might be imagined as mythical beasts. Pictured above is one of several striking dust pillars of the Eagle Nebula that might be described as a gigantic alien fairy. This fairy, however, is ten light years tall and spews radiation much hotter than common fire. The greater Eagle Nebula, M16, is actually a giant evaporating shell of gas and dust inside of which is a growing cavity filled with a spectacular stellar nursery currently forming an open cluster of stars. The above image in scientifically re-assigned colors was released in 2005 as part of the fifteenth anniversary celebration of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope.

I don't know much about a northern hemisphere night sky, however from the southern hemisphere you get a much clearer picture of our galactic core and arms.

I wish I was more knowledgeable in Astronomy.

Termite mounds are so cool. It's insane to imagine how millions of little termites build something like this grain by grain.

What's even more amazing, is that the engineering is so precise and planned, that different sections of the structure are kept at different temperatures depending on their usage. The termites use a method of air conditioning in a similar way to how the human lungs work.
The engineering also suggests a high level of communication amongst termites.
If you are interested, there is a good flash presentation here http://www.esf.edu/efb/turner/old site/presentations/air_conditioned_termite_mound.swf

and then you push someone in and he dies a horrible, painfull death, the end
You would have to shoot someone out of a cannon to break through a termite mound. They much tougher than they look. Here's a guy climbing one just to put it in perspective.
