Terraria's developer Redigit is holding a NPC design contest. If any of you are interested, you can design your own Terrarian NPC for consideration in 1.2. You don't have to be artistic either, you can simply provide a detailed description.

EDIT: Void, 6 hours ago isn't old.
 
There should be a Werewolf NPC that transforms when there's a full moon, and you can pay them 10 gold or something to be your bodyguard until the next morning.

I entered a guy that challenges you to beat his best time of defeating a boss, if the NPC quest system is implemented. He's not gonna win, but it's kinda cool to just to do it and to see others entries.

"My spine's tingling with anticipation."
"I must transform soon!"
"I'm trembling Human. Me! A mighty werewolf!"
"The change is coming, soon enough..."

Full Moon
"AUW-AUW-AUWOOOOOOOO!"
"Snarl... Grrrrrrrr WOOF!"

Full Moon/Full Blood Moon Upon Being Asked to Guard Player
"Snarl... *STAY BACK HUMAN!* Grrrrrrr... *I'M TRYING NOT TO DEVOUR YOU!* Woof Woof WOOF! *HELP ME OUT WITH SOME COLD HARD CAS- RAWR!"
"It'll do me goo- WOOF WOOF WOOF -d to get out of t- Grrrrrr... -he house.
"AUW-AUW-AUWOOOOOO!"
"ROARSNARLGROWLRIPSNAPGRRRRRWOOFWOOFWOOFARFBARKAUWOOOOOOOOOO!"

Being Asked to Guard Player on a Normal Night/Normal Blood Moon
"I'll gladly lend you my services. Just tell me where the nearest chicken farm is."
"Grrrr... Yes Human, I can see you need my protection."
"You're just now coming to me for help?!?"
"I'm surprised you haven't perished long ago..."

Blood Moon
"TIME FOR SOME KILLING!"
"AUW-AUW-AUWOOOOOOOOO!"
"Grrrr... I feel my blood boiling..."
"I feel so much stronger and contro- WOOF WOOF WOOF! *Ahem* Excuse me a moment."
I kinda ignored the snappy, impatient thing, as it was a bit hard to work out of.
