I thought so too, but you know, it's the United States. While doing it now seems like a risky stunt, it's better than to wait a few months, when people will already have stopped giving a shit about him and the trial since it won't be on TV 24/7 anymore.

Tell me about it. My wife and her colleagues are being escorted by GM security to the parking lot when they leave Renaissance Center after 7 pm. It's a mandatory escort.

That's too bad. One good thing for downtown Detroit.... My Dept (DNR Parks & Rec Division) bought this building by our little State Park downtown near the Renaissance center. It is in the process of being turned into a large outdoor and adventure center. It's going to be great for teaching kids about the outdoors and I will be teaching there next summer off and on.

Also we just took over Belle Isle this week since Detroit went bankrupt, so look for some massive improvements there

Impressive. I'm looking forward for Detroit becoming as beautiful as it was in 50s. I hope it will happen.

While they could have handled this a little better, I think this is actually totally okay as long as there is no specific set of beliefs being promoted. The same man who coined the phrase "There are no atheists in foxholes," also said, "Everyone expresses some form of faith every day, whether it is religious or secular." Having been exposed to a small amount of the marine ethos (a number of my buddies are and I was interested for a while in becoming one and was a poolie for awhile), the Corps has a mystique that they like to promote and has benefited all members of the Corps by making them believe that they are part of an elite group. Having some sort of spiritual faith makes this easier to accept and be taught. It doesn't have to be Christianity, Islam, Judaism or any mainline religion, but believing in something further than the physical makes for a more devoted, and therefore effective and better Marine.
