It's always been browser based and running off java, but its graphics are deceiving. I can run Guild Wars 2 on high graphics with this 5 year old mid end laptop better than I can run Runescape

So it's like Minecraft?

I run TF2 at all medium settings on dx9 and get around 65 FPS
I run Minecraft windowed and get 30 on lowest settngs.

C++ > Java
^ programming languages if you didn't notice.

Pretty much.

I'm not sure if it's just processor heavy by design, poorly optimized or what.

There was a term for what Java exactly is that I can't think of right now...
Basically, they took C rewrote it in a dumbed down language, and made java

Sun Microsystems was one of the, if not THE biggest supporter of Open Source software, and eventually made Java Open Source. Unfortunately, they acquired too many other companies and their products and went bankrupt.

Wait, is it a complete freeze at 2007 with the same bugs and features, or is it a feature-freeze but they are patching it?
Either way, that sounds pretty cool but it will get stale pretty quick if nothing new are added for the players, imo.

From what I understand it's a complete freeze of 2007 that's being patched, no new content or anything, just bug fixes and some other improvements such as anti-botting software.

They had a massive outcry for older servers once they did evolution of combat (Evolution of combat canned the simple attack system and replace it with class abilities and what not), so they looked into bringing back older servers and found that they had a complete backup of a 2007 server. Took them like a month to get it up and running.

And yeah, some people are getting bored of the lack of new content. I'm not sure how successful it's been, I got bored of normal RS around the time 07 servers came out.
