LOL good fuck them. These borderline "cheats" shouldn't be allowed in the game... and I already know I'm gonna hear all kinds of justification for it. I've already read it all including that other games like Quake use a higher FOV so don't bother.

They're also stupid for continuing to use the plugin after Valve patched and even warned against using such plugins.
Wouldn't go so far to say "borderline cheats" its just wanting to use a fov that is similar to what you actually see in RL rather than a constricted view.

Video games aren't RL.

I don't need to justify anything. Higher FOV just feels better to some players.

And yes, they are stupid for still using it. Guess that was their way to protest (and keep them away from the comp scene for the rest of their lives).

Can't you somewhat wallhack with a high FOV?

The plugin only let you raise it up to 130 plus you couldn't do it while connected to a server.
European Team Fortress 2 League used to allow it, but then Valve started banning people for using it. The plugin made you able to join VAC secured servers even when you had -insecure in launch options (required for the FOV change and stuff to work).

Oh shit, some jump server is gonna go down soon. They were using some plugin where you could set it to 180. I felt like I was going to barf :l

Serverside plugins are still allowed.

Oh, I understand now. Valve considered it a hack. I must have understood you wrong. I was assuming that you meant they used a server-side one, I didn't know you meant it was clientside.

He is the one comparing it to RL...

But he do have a point, unfortunately he gave a pretty poor correlation between field of view in real life and in a video game.

Humans got a field of view that are almost 180°, so naturally our brain are going to work around that amount of degree to gather information about our surrounding. But a conflict is created if we are sitting close to a screen, focusing on a game that have a field of view of 70-90°; creating tunnel vision. This can lead to motion sickness, headaches and nausea because our brain are not built around this low degree of field of view (because it is only lately that we have found means to artifical create a conflict between what we see and what our brain wants to see.)
