F12, Steam overlay.

That's probably why, I think some Valve games don't show certain things like chat when you use steam overlay's screenshot thing.

I don't know if there are any options for it, but you could try using a different screenshot method like window's print screen function or fraps.

I would use print screen, except it writes to the clipboard, which is a problem for me.
