I won't participate because I'm not very good in Poker. But I like the idea. When would you play it, and who keeps the buy ins? If you need someone to hold it, I can do it (and if you thrust me lol).

Im in.. and I'm fucking good at this shit, prepare to lose your items.
I'd go up to 5 ref, but depends on what everyone else thinks is a good amount to wager.
also, what did you have in mind, 5 card stud? 5 card draw? (I prefer 7 card, but that doesn't get played much)
...what... I was talking texas hold em, if thats what you mean by 7 card

count me in!

I think the first step should be to make some "place" or thread to register everyone interested (only register, not discussing buy-ins, rules, ... Keep doing that over here).
Also the buy in shouldn't be to high, as you might exclude people who just want to have some fun.
Once you have a rough idea of contestants, you can start making up a "tournament guide" or "rules".
We did some "student poker nights" when I was younger (and no, I'm NOT old!!!!!), so if you need some help on the organisation part, just let me know :)

K , do you know any programs we could use?

I made some charts with ideas to distribute the buy in amongst the winners:

1) The money you get increases with every player that is eliminated from play, with getting 100% back when half of the players are out.

2) Players earn money when half of the players has been eliminated, the eliminated players receive nothing.

3) Only the top players will receive money, with huge amounts that can be won. Players that don't reach the top earn nothing.

4) Winner takes it all.

I was going with a full elimination round.

So n° 4, winner takes it all? But people will be doing to make fun, if you distribute the prize money people would be more likely to participate and enjoy the game.
Enjoy the game? This is gambling... its an addiction... its not fun. Besides its only a few ref

I agree with Astir though, maybe split the pot to the "top 3".
Look at it as fun way for people to learn to know eachother, have fun and ofcourse compare dicksizes over a poker table ^^.
I can provide a private Mumble channel and get some ppl streaming the matches.

About the "poker software question", no, I don't rly know. We played it irl, not over the internet :D
Although, most poker sites/clients allow you to make private tables though. I could try some out on monday, I have a day off then.

Maybe start off with appointing people to organise it, I think 2 - 4 should be enough. If you want, I'de be glad to help out on this one. Anyone else who feels like helping on the organisation part?

Hold em.. yeah good for me.. nah 7 card is something different 3 down 4 over, no pool in the middle. deal 2 each to start (face down) bet, one each face up, bet (4 times) then one last face down each (bet) I think it might be called up the river or something in US terminology, someone from vegas might know.

You can get a private table on club pogo or yahoo games, but can only do 4 at a table at once.. could do eliminations?

Nah, just run the classic Texas hold 'em, I think you will reach a bigger public that way :)
