Yes, I went to the movies fucking alone, in a theater with about 4 people total in it. There was a couple in their 60's where the wife got up saying how it was repulsive and didn't come back.
I was smiling too much to go with anyone that I wouldn't disturb deeply.

YEAH WELL FUCK YOU CINIC
IT'S NOT LIKE I WANTED TO SLEEP TONIGHT ANYWAYS
Now you all know that Toxik's #1 fear is creepy little girls :(
EDIT1: Also, watching the trailer, looks like tentacle raep at 1:01
EDIT2: You know, it actually doesn't look that bad, I might go see it instead of Jurassic Park 3D

It was separate. In the script I read a few months back, they had several more references to the original that they cut out. I'm excited for when it comes out on DVD for the deleted scenes. In the trailer, they even cut out the "Not another peep, Time to go to sleep," line from Sharon in the original. After the girlfriend of the dude protagonist saw the girl, she said, "What happened to her eyes?" That was said by Shelly in the original, but was followed by her screaming, "FOR GOD'S SAKE, WHAT HAPPENED TO HER EYES?!?!" They didn't have her do that. The script had it so the girl said, "Give me back my hand..!" when her hand gets infected, as it did in Evil Dead 2 to Ash, but they cut that line out.
With the final evil, instead of having it be a large monster having the heads of all Mia's friends and brother on it, all tormenting her, they just cut it out and had it be one chick who looked similar to Mia, with slight bodily contortions on her (the "final monster" in Evil Dead 2).
The original script also had it so the song that the brother shared with Mia was the same song that was sung in the opening scene in the car, regarding "Letters to Paris" ("Surely inform you" is a line you might recognize, if you're overly familiar with the first Evil Dead), but they just had it be some normal song in there. They showed the clock that stopped in the original, but only showed it, and didn't have the female protagonist drawing it.
I'm droning. Anyways, it was a really great standalone film with the story's roots based strongly in the original. It was kind of a good move to cut it aside from the other films, so as not to make the die-hards rage, but I personally would have loved the few tongue-in-cheek references to the other movies that were originally intended.
The shock factor of the movie is probably the most intense of any mainstream movie released, in honesty. The final scene was the bloodiest thing I've ever seen. The insanity of it was a step-down from A Serbian Film (DO NOT SEE THAT MOVIE, PLEASE), but I wouldn't want to see anything as recklessly and sexually disturbing as that movie was.
I had Bosnian as a friend.. Pretty tough element, I have to admit. I know that Russians took Serbians' side in this conflict, but "Serbian Film"? Da fuck is that?

.. and you have never tried to find out what they meant by "Serbian Film", have you?
PS. most Americans have no idea what Serbia, Bosnia, and Montenegro are.
