So basically here's the situation: asked a teammate (Frank) who was non-contributing (steak/pan heavy, did nothing but this for multiple rounds) to stop with this activity and help his team out (we were getting absolutely crushed on defense and he wasn't helping us out at all). Long story short, tons of mic spam from him, a refusal to change his behavior even after being informed he was breaking server rules, one of his friends doing an abusive votemute which passed, and several other people joining in this behavior. I'm reporting the votemute, and bandwagon hoppers for rule #10 (Harming your team... refusing to help advance your team's position). This server has a real problem with this type of griefing behavior, so I'd like to help clean it up a bit by reporting cases like this when they happen.

Anyone can edit the official wiki. Griefing bans are subject to interpretation. Not playing with 100% intensity at all times should not be a bannable offense.

That has been in the official wiki for a long time, however.

Using melee only weapons drags down the quality of play, and makes the game all that much harder for people who are making a legitimate effort to try to play the objectives. It's kind of hard to hold your own against 5 enemies when your backup consists of a melee heavy, a rocket jumper, and a demoknight.

While intensity of play is debatable, a player who intentionally uses only melee weapons, as frank has been shown in the demos to (other people saying that he only pans in the demo, probably has hlstats showing majority of kills from pan, etc.) shows clear premeditated griefing intent, especially when they continue this behavior while their team is getting spawn camped (this is displayed in the demo). This is forgivable when you've got the advantage and want to even up things between the teams, but not when your team is getting pounded.

If you enforce the rules against peaceful heavies, what logical basis do you have not to enforce them here? Moreover, why does this player get banned, yet these guys do the same thing scott free?

I regularly play classes I don't feel like playing for the betterment of my team, and personally find my ability to enjoy the game reduced with these types of antics.

that guy got banned for giving sanviches to the other team

Alright, well we do have a case of votemute abuse, and I would like to ask for clarification on rule #10, because to my understanding gimping your class intentionally is an equivalency to "refusing to help your team advance their position".

It's the pre-meditation that sets it apart from simply doing something stupid or not understanding that something isn't viable. In the other case, throwing a sandvich that is picked up by the enemy wouldn't be a bannable offense, it was the act of intentionally throwing it to them.

Banning demoknights and trolldiers is stupid. It's not that serious Sud, people can play however they want to as long as they are playing. If they get 4 kills or 40 kills at least they made an effort.

Not playing at all or intentionally avoiding the objective is griefing.

Deciding you want to use a pan instead of your scattergun is not griefing.

I remember seeing a trolldier vid (even using the Mantreads on top of critMG) shortly after said items came out. IIRC, his team kept winning several times in Hightower

I have got MVP many times as a demoknight...

And wasn't there a semi-final UGC round where someone was a sticky jumping caber demo?

Bottom line: obviously you want the heavy on your team to use his minigun but if he wants to punch people that's his choice. Have some strategy and use him as bait or something.

What you have to understand is we run public servers where people play for fun, we aren't going to ban people for not playing 'pro'

I can get "MvP" by throwing a sandvich to a scout in spawn who's using boston basher, points are meaningless in the light of action. If you're scoring points and being effective even while sandbagging yourself that's a situation where your team clearly has the allowance to allow you to.

This is a situation where players sandbagging is causing the teams to be horrendously imbalanced. The ramifcations of this are people leaving the server. The population might replenish itself after, but it happens. It's your server and you can interpret the rules however you wish, however when this griefing starts to bother me I guess I'll just join those that leave.

Again, not an issue of if people are playing "super pro" or not. There are tons of bad soldiers and demos using stock loadouts, but they're not being called out because they're at least they're trying. It's an issue of intentionally disrespecting your teammates with your own selfish desires. It was quite clear what this guy was trying to do with his attitude in voice chat over the demos. It was further quite clear when his friends started doing abusive votes. There's a reason why a rocket jumper / market gardener is called "trolldier". What more can I say?

Well, I'm just talking about the use of melee only, mittens is the one dealing with the rest of the reports, if there was abusive reports, action will be taken.
We will not take action against those who use melee only though, which is far removed from the instance you gave of people staying in spawn feeding damaged players.
I quiet often play demo with PP and CT, for the sole reason to level up my strange PP. I go around killing as many enemies as I can, but dont really focus on the cap, does this mean I am griefing? or would it only be griefing if the rest of my team are playing badly?

Kirby is getting a 1 day ban for vote abuse. Nobody else is because they were not breaking the rules. The only reason you aren't getting a ban for vote abuse is because I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt in genuinely believing he was breaking the rules when you tried to voteban Frank.

Thanks for the help with Kirby.

A review of the demo should provide all the evidence you need that I was acting in the best interest of the server's rules.
