I feel like people are just stupid for not trying to protect there vintage cars against natural disasters.

I tend to cringe more when people that have classic cars knowingly damage them: like not keeping up proper maintenance or leave them outside to rust.

People should protect such beauty, but you just can't protect everything against the force of nature (sandy). The car was probably not working, and now he probably get some money from the insurance company. IDK how you guys do that kind of stuff in Murica?

Anyway, it doesn't mean if you like and respect something, other people do the same.

Isn't it always like that with old stuff? I remember cringing so hard when grandpa showed me a book from the 15th century, and then when you looked inside it it was cluttered with stickmen drawn by my dad when he was like 6 years old.

If people had the papers, then they will collect the insurance money. You are right; You can't predict how bad a storm will really be. Those cars could have been stored miles inland or in a concrete parking structure in New York where they thought it would be at least somewhat safe. If a big storm is coming I will concentrate on getting my family and believe it or not my sentimental things like pictures out and then worry about stuff that can be replaced by insurance.

Oh god...That does make me cringe. I restored a classic car and I kept it in my garage except when I drove it in the summer. The fact that seeing that made you cringe means you recognize that something like that has value and should be taken care of so one day when you have things of value, you will probably take care of them ;-)

There's not much choice when you have to choose between saving your fancy car or your family, it's a shame that those vintage cars got fucked but I imagine these people lost much more than that when a frickin hurricane stormed into town.

If I ever win the lottery I'll buy as many classic cars I can and then make videos of me destroying them then upload them to youtube

I'm just glad my dad didn't fuck up all his books, my favorite one being a 17th century bible.

Stupid for not trying to protect them? What do you want them encased in carbonite and anchored down by a solid diamond tether?

"Henry, we forgot Patrick at home!"
"He'll have to take care of himself."
"But Henry, he's only 3 years old!"
"GODAMMIT JULIA I AM NOT RISKING THIS ROLLS ROYCE FOR OUR ONLY SON"

If you have looked into this story more, people were given a weeks advance notice that all hell was going to happen. Well they could have taken there cars and families far away from what was going to happen but they did not thats what I find sad.

You're not getting the point. Not everyone can do that.
