Disable ratings for new users

Make it so that new forum accounts can't give or receive ratings until they have at least 10 posts.

This will prevent people who make accounts for ban appeals from getting negative ratings as well as giving disagree/dumb ratings when they rage at their unban denial.

This will also prevent new users from being discouraged when their first few forum posts receive bad ratings.

As it is now new users cannot post links until they have at least 2 messages. Apply this to ratings as well, 10 posts shows they are actually active and may then give/receive ratings.

Ratinga don't really matter, it's just a way to show your opinion if you don't want to make a post. Even after they hit ten posts, what's to say they won't rate spam? Some will, some won't, same as it is now.

Most of the ban appeals don't have this sort of stuff happening, so it isn't even a big deal.

I also don't feel that most new users get negative ratings short of being trolls.

If the guy can't take hIs ban without flipping out and cursing at the other members, they deserve the ratings they get.

Then we have regulars on this forum that seems to get the hots from rating people posts with negative ratings, I'm not gonna mention any names.

I want a middleground - if it's possible to remove some ratings, that'd be great. We could limit it to the like rating, disagree rating, and friendly rating or something. Like covers most positive situations, disagree is a way of saying something negative without sounding negative and disencouraging, friendly is also a fairly general rating that is used if something is cute and adorable, and we all know that Skial loves that shit so why not.

I think this is more suitable.
While i agree that all rating shouldn't be disabled, there needs to be a way to stop giving new posters the impression we are potentially an immature, Dumb Rating Happy, bunch of 13 year olds, and therefore giving us a bad impression.

I think this is a really effective solution, except I would like to see it go as far as disabling all ratings in those sections. It would allow us to rate Introduction posts as "Friendly" and would curb harassment of members who are filing ban appeals or reports. There's no need for ratings in the report/bans sections. The only input in those threads should be from people directly involved, not the entire Skial peanut gallery.

I think this is a really effective solution, except I would like to see it go as far as disabling all ratings in those sections. Not trying to troll here...but I didn't exactly find every single Mittens posts to mark it dumb...just saying. And I think it's easy enough to find a dumb idea in just about anything anyone says. Mitten marked that last post as dumb...what does he disagree with "saying nice things? Or a poor attempt at humor?"

While I did mark the original OP as dumb..limited new users from marking crap while older users have that ability. This basically just encourages people to stay on the forums longer if they really want to troll. Especially if they have been banned...now why would you want an angry person on the forums?

On a side note: Did I get a warning and do I have to explain every bad joke I type (hence the I'll mark you dumb if you mark me dumb joke) as well as every reason why I decided to put a completely useless negative criticism in the form of "dumb" every time I mark dumb?

BTW, Mitten is probably going to mark this dumb...I can feel it coming....

Ratings don't matter but new users may think they do. Also because they are new they will take it more seriously as something coming from the locals and just feel like a dumb outsider.

Yeah new members can get positive ratings but there are more negative ones given (bans/reports). You can show your love to new members by just saying so and 10 posts later you can go back and rate their first post friendly or like all you want...

Or you could stop taking ratings so seriously. You're being way more melodramatic about ratings than the average user.

They won't stay past 10 posts to troll because they won't even know what ratings are at first since they won't see the option or have their posts rated. And if they are that determined they'll just get banned, no big deal.
