No what happened was when we lost oil pressure and went to Wal-Mart due to it being the only garage. well they did not want to take my money if I did not have an oil filter that they sought fit. I had a classic car guy telling them that when he was a kid he always used tp as an oil filter and the lady kept cutting him off and telling us that we could not get an oil change let alone just filling it. so on our way back home she got too hot and I did not know even when I was watching the temp gauge which stayed at norm operating tempter. well I looked behind me and I could see white smoke and felt the power starting to fade so I hit the clutch to let it role as I pulled over and as soon as I hit the clutch she died. when we let her cool off and started it up again there was this loud clanking sound and I turned it off. after we had to have it towed and I think the motor is blown which sucks ass. now as I see it Wal-Mart denied me a service over dam tp paper and cost me a motor so I'm going to see if I cant ask a lawyer if I can get some of the damages paid for. I know that sounds stupid but what's it going to hurt if I ask I mean my car I love is not going to move any where until I get a new flat head 6 or other motorYou know for sure your filter was blocked? If this just started and wasn't getting worse over time then your oil pump could have failed, tons of soot in the oil or the viscosity was too high. Generally the filter would cause issues if blocked and reduce engine life but, there is a by pass valve to let oil circulate. Were you hearing a clicking before it died? And did it cease up on you? Sorry, but I doubt the oil change would have fixed your issue. Just a thought.
Before people say omgagirlwatdoessheknow.. I was a anti-lock brake technician/test driver for 9 years and restored a 76 Mg midget 1500.
also it was almost empty on oil and it looked like it had never been changed. it also make the motor warm up fast when it is pulling its 3,580 pound body along at 65 MPH so in a nut shell there was not enough oil and the motor burnt up.You know for sure your filter was blocked? So what does that mean?I'm just done with every thing.
those were some great pointers if only I was not 70 miles from my house and my oil pressure did not bottom out on the highway. im going to try a couple of things and if they don't work im going to suck it up call it what it is and drop $250 on a 1937 ford truck 6 cylinder flat head or get something with a little more power for the highway like a slant head motor. If Walmart shoved a roll of TP in your car as an oil filter and it failed, then they would be in a world of shit (bad pun). What they did there was protect themselves.
I hate to point this stuff out, but since you love this car so much and it is a classic:
1. If it was that low on oil, then why did you drive it?
2. If the oil looked that bad to where it hadn't been changed in a long time, then why did you drive it?
3. It's a 1950 Plymouth; It's probably not going to be a common filter and would most likely have to be ordered from Napa or advanced auto.
4. Before you move a classic car like that, you check everything and change what is needed and fill what is needed.
5. If your oil was really that low then you would have needed about 5 quarts to make a difference, but since it looked that bad then it was probably sludge and didn't make it to the engine anyway.
6. Your pistons and rods seized and you now have a rather large paper weight.
I feel bad for you man, but at the same time...You probably never should have pulled that car out of your driveway.
Best of luck.
well that means im out of a 62 year old peace of American motor and I need to buy another or something bigger. it just sucks so bad that the day before I got it all street legal for school on Monday and now to have it holding down the drive way.So what does that mean?
Btw, good service at wal-mart is like a good game of 2fort. It just doesnt exist.
Good point. I guess I was just so depressed I headed to the only place that I use to post.I don't want to be a stick in the mud here but... why is this in the TF2 section? xD
Also sorry about the car, classics can be/are a bitch to keep up with in todays times, simply because the parts you need were stopped being produced by the car manufactures.
