Why do scouts use the stock bat over the atomizer?

Jwso's a damn good scout and used to use it.

I never used it personally. In competitive play boston basher is a lot more useful, you can also get quad jumps in with it if your jumping to a medic or a hp pack.

After spamming double space for 200 hours i didn't want to use the atomiser and the reward wasn't that high above the learning.
 
I use Atomizer in HL all the time, but it's not allowed in 6v6 (which I've started just recently) so it can be a bit confusing when playing HL and 6v6 on the same day.
 
Well if you ever DO need to use it, you generally can't get the kill because of the reduced damage and firing speed. Getting crit bat kills is so satisfying.
 
It's not the kills or the utility, it's the humiliation and that my friends is why I use the fish. Hell Clockwerk, the best NA scout uses stock bat over basher/sword
 
Also, there is nothing more satisfying than having a heavy rush at you with his minigun, but you shoot him at the wall with the FaN (IT WAS A ONE TIME OCCURENCE OK) and then whoop his sorry fat ass with the Boston Basher. I've never been so satisfied with a kill before.
 
The damage decrease can be that deciding factor when melee-ing down a low-health target, that and when it comes to killing things with melee, beating a person's face in with Roman's face is so satisfying. Especially when they ask who's on the Objector.
 
It's simple: the stock bat has absolutely no downsides, and I have an annoying habit of using melee often.
