Instead of us having to ask a mod to lock a thread, why not let us lock it ourself?
maybe for the non-trade threads, a "Request Lock" title prefix. that way, if someone wants to lock their thread, they can simply edit the title and moderators can easily find what threads are requested to be closed here

speaking of thread prefixes, is it possible for there to be a forum plugin that auto-locks trade threads marked Closed?
That

-1. I think in theory it's a good idea, in execution it won't be one.

The mods on this forum do a very good job of letting shitstorms go long enough to be entertaining, but closing them before they start being stupid. I think if someone does something stupid they deserve to be chastised some, as was said earlier the fellow whos name I won't be repeating could just stir up shit, lock his thread before anyone could make him look foolish.

I don't have too big of a problem with it if it's a donator perk, but if any random idiot could start discussions then lock them when people start disagreeing with them, I think you'll start finding these forums devoid of humor. If a thread is out of control I normally just use the report function and it gets taken care of in a quick fashion - if we can lock our own threads what's the point of having mods?

So all in all, without trying to come off as an asskisser, the mods do an excellent job, and I don't feel we need this function.

I think this would be a great idea. This will reduce the volume of necro threads a bit. I am sure certain people could possibly abuse this, but they could easily be dealt with through a few amended forum rules.

Well I'm all for the locking of trade threads. I know someone posted a suggestion a while ago about it and I said I would code a plugin for it, I just haven't gotten around to it since my weekends have been busy. Other stuff, yes, I will let a "shitstorm" thread go on a for a bit, but as soon as people start repeating insults are getting way too personal I will jump in and lock and/or delete posts. I think it would be bad outside of trade because it's just ONE MORE THING we have to moderate.

Pretty much this, I have no issue with trade posts being able to be locked, but I think everything else should be fair game.

I think it's easier to just report thread since we have a little bar at the top with a big red box telling us there's a reported thread. Also, don't know of any plugin yet..That's part of what I was planning on developing. But in addition it would auto close threads after a certain cutoff period.

Oh gawd that's perfect

People are still saying this enables thread spamming? No. A spam thread is a spam thread, and whether locked or not, a spam thread will be dealt with.

True, but why bringing additional work in for moderators? I think it's easier for them to lock the thread per request rather than surf through the forum and lock multiple spamming threads.

Why would they lock a thread that a thread spammer has locked? Would it be even more locked? They can give a warning point, be on with their day, and no real additional work has been made for them in the end. In fact, it might end up making less work for them, since no one would have to request for a thread to be locked once their topic has been discussed to the most reasonable extent.

Like this one. We're already recycling points that have already been made. This thread may as well be locked now, and I'm sure OP can realize that. He should have that right.

I understand your point. But why would we have 2-3 spamming threads locked by OP in each section on a daily basis? These threads would move other unlocked (and, sometimes, interesting) threads down the list...

What prevents OP from adding Roman (for instance) through Steam (or sending him PM through forum) and asking him to lock the thread? As far as I know Roman (or any other mod) has no problems with accepting friend requests and assisting in any issues..

I'm failing to see how implementing a self-lock ability will increase the amount of spam threads. If someone's going to post a spam thread, they're going to post a spam thread whether they can lock it or not, and they're probably going to end up in time-out or forum banned as a result. The mods aren't all present 24/7 so a DIY lock button would therefore be more convenient than waiting until one can respond.

Makes sense. I have nothing to object here. The only thing is I still can't understand how allowing members to lock their own threads will be an improvement. What kind of benefit does it hold?
