First suggestion here, so sorry if I mess up something (looked for guidelines on posting suggestions and didn't see any). I've noticed a large amount of abuse of the votemute system, and I feel that the entire system is unnecessary since TF2 has it's own built in clientside mute. I say that it should be removed for several reasons:
- Mute wars - PlayerB mutes PlayerA because they don't want to hear them talking, then PlayerA's friends mute PlayerB, then you end up with 8 or 9 people that have been muted (many of which weren't even speaking at all).
- Players blindly voting yes - I've heard many people say things like "Oh, I didn't even read it. I just voted yes". This unbalances the vote in the favor of whoever started the vote. Just earlier today, for example, I was chatting with a good friend of mine ( <3 Mr. Spy) and two guys voiced their opinions ("Shut the f*** up kid"x50), yet the vote passed with 13 votes.
- Vote timer ineffective - Many players play with friends and when their vote doesn't pass, they either ask a friend who's on that server to vote it for them or just ask in global chat. The vote then might have more support or just by luck will pass.
- Spambots - Have the server kick players if they send more than X messages per X seconds, and ban if they do it more than X times per hour.
- People playing music - Clientside mute them if you don't want to listen, some people do want to listen.
- You not liking to hear people - Disable voice chat in the options menu.
