Don't really know, I hate EA a lot for how greedy they are with stuff, but the 50% off thing is going on because Origin isnt really doing good against steam and others.
 
No I complained about them screwing me over with the HD content not being able to install on the Xbox 4GB even though there was enough space and the box hid that fact well only to find it out after you gave them $60.

I'm thinking about raffling it off maybe, for big gamers here, because there's not really anything I want to buy from there anyways very much. BF3 maybe, or maybe the Jak and Daxter HD Collection for my brother, but ehh.

If you don't want your computer scanned, delete Origin.
As was stated in a previous thread "so does valve" it is just hype about EA using spyware, probably originating from the offices of valve so as to discredit EA to maintain market share.

I thought there was a way of denying Valve permission to scan your computer?
I dunno... all I know is people say "dont use Origin" it spys on you, and they don't think twice about linking their steam account to multiple websites...
