i don't tolerate racism. it's just that i think that "nigga" doesn't carry the same discriminative weight as "nigger". the former is just a more controversial "bro" if anything. with that in mind though, i do believe some people have problems with the term, and i would likely warn people unless they say something like "COMMUNISTIC NIGGER JEW GOOK CHINK-ASS BITCH WETBACKED BEANER HONKEY". i'm all up for second chances because i do know people don't think of "nigga" as something that is exclusively racist. in that case i would warn them about the term being frowned upon, and then act out proper punishment if they disregard what i've said and keep repeating themselves. i think that would be fair for people.

i suppose i'll withdraw my application in that case if it means people don't get the privilege of a warning first. that and possibly being forced to ban people who i might possibly see eye to eye on (largely depending on the context) with no discussion just goes against my principles. i realize they're the servers rules, but the "no racism" rule really begs for an explanation to what you people mean with racism, what i perceive as racism and what you guys might think is racism are two different things; elaborate on what you mean "racism" so that it becomes clear to what you people take offense to, racism isn't as straight forward and black and white as you might think. it's your server, people should abide by the rules.

If you aren't sure what the operators of skial consider racism I would go through the previous bans and ban appeals to see what people were actually banned for. I think there has definitely been enough to establish a precedence for nearly every case you might come across. With that said, a ban of less than one week (which in my experience is pretty standard for a first-time and minor offenses) is imo a very reasonable warning.

that would be racism, yes. what you don't grasp is that there's a difference between certain words that have different meanings in the matter that they are used. sorry if i'm the one that's ignorant when i notice the correlation between racial discrimination and cultural appropriation.

If someone uses the N-word in any way shape or form on the skial servers you have to abide by the zero tolerance policy for racism, your own definition doesn't mean shit since you don't make the rules, everyone knows that people use it outside of skial and some people are ok with that, but that doesn't mean shit. (sorry if I sound mean.)

Some of the skial amins have made the case that since we can't know the ethnicity of the person saying it we can't judge whether it's "okay" for them to be using racial slurs or not. On the other hand I personally think it's kind of stupid that there are words which are ok for a certain type of person to say and not another. At this point all that does is perpetuate the idea of there being some significant difference between different races. Of course that is just the opinion of a middle-class white boy from way up north so take it for what it's worth. :P

that's what i'm saying. so i suggest the rules have to elaborate on bottiger's idea on what constitutes as racism. it has happened before that someone says something he and other people didn't find racist; yet was found racist by other people. otherwise people will be left in the dark with no clear understanding on what racism entails on the servers.

I think what pr1mus is getting at is that the "gga" variant doesn't carry as much offense as the "er". I can see where he's coming from, because when the "gga" variant is used, it's usually used jokily and usually with no offence intended (unless you've seen some gang fights recently)

But yes to be safe it shouldn't be used at all, unfortunately there's not enough people mature enough to look past the harmless side.

Either way people will take it as racism. It is best to avoid sensitive problems made and just follow the rule as it states. Anyone has a problem with it, that is what ban appeals are for is it not? If I'm playing the Hale server I don't want to have to hear the word "Nigga" at all. Joke or otherwise. It gets annoying and offensive to anyone simply due to the ignorance shown.

i understand that. but people should be warned about it and should be told to refrain from saying it again because despite it bearing no ill-intentions.

We've been over this since the community started, "nigga" isn't as offensive as "nigger", but we still do not allow it as people would clearly take advantage of it, such as kids who will use the excuse "but I'm black so I can say it".
This doesn't mean that you will not be considered, but if you do get the admin position, we cannot allow you to overlook these kinds of situations.
