We believe Saxton Hale shows up as an error sign for people who haven't switched to Steampipe on their client. It is available as an opt-in beta and should be forced installed on all clients soon.

All our servers are now on Steampipe. The automatic updater has not been tested and may not work properly.

Valve is switching TF2 over to a new file layout called "Steampipe" tomorrow.

When they do so we will need to manually reboot all servers to switch over to the new system.

We cannot do it right now because Sourcemod, the plugin system we use, won't be updated until this happens.

Here is a summary of what's new at Skial.

Persistent Mute and Gag

Mutes and gags can now last through server restarts and will show up here.

New Donation Plans

There is now a lower priced plan that will let you sample our donation status.

New Servers

We moved a few servers to NY such as 32 slots Dustbowl and 2Fort, and changed one of them to a pro maps rotation server. As always, please take a look at our server list or run our Skial servers favorites list importer.

Trail Plugin Testing on Idle

Donors can test out the trail plugin on the idle server by typing /trail. We need to make sure trails can be removed so there isn't a memory leak....

There have been rumors going on that Skial purposefully uses malware ads to get more money. This is not the case. There are no advertisers that solely serve malware, and we get less money for not using a full screen ad.

First of all, it is important to know that only a few people saw this ad and the ad was quickly removed. They were likely not even infected.

It is important to know how 99% of banners ads (what we used) work on the internet. This is what happens when you buy a banner ad.

• Specify how much money you want to spend and targetting options like country.
• Specify an image.
• Specify the link when you click on the image.
• None of these options allow you to add Java code to the ad.

Ads will be approved to make sure it isn't anything illegal. However after it is approved, someone can then change the destination to automatically send you to a malware page.



So what does this mean?

As some of you may have experienced or may still be experiencing now (and as a result can't even read this page), there is/was a website outage. The problem was because we used Cloudflare for DNS and they had a system wide outage so no one was able to tell which server controlled domains like skial.com 4chan.org or imgur.com.

When this happened, we switched DNS servers, but many ISPs will cache results for many hours which means people may not be able to see the website still.
