If your favorite server/settings were removed then it was because it was losing players and eventually going to end up completely empty.

Unless you can prove that the map is gaining in popularity on other (community not official) servers, it will not be coming back.

  • January 23rd 2014, Valve defaulted quickplay to official servers which killed off all but the most popular maps. Before this, we used to have every type of rotation server and for less mainstream maps such as gravelpit and barnblitz.

  • July 7th, 2016, Valve introduced "casual" mode and completely removed quickplay from the game. This further cut off community servers from the general playerbase. Notably causing the death of regular respawn time servers.

There are only 2 things you can do about this now.

  1. It is up to you to keep your favorite server filled. We have done everything humanly possible to make sure that our servers are the best and that's why we have way more players than everyone else.

  2. If you can't do that, then you should complain to Valve to bring back quickplay with community servers in it and/or to make community servers more visible in the GUI and not hide them near the bottom of the screen.

Can you keep the server up if I pay for it all?

Even if we had unlimited money, what's the point in keeping a server that no one but you wants to join?

Why not keep the server up until it is completely empty?

Because everyone would have removed it from their favorites and it will become 100x harder to replace it with something else. It also looks bad to have a bunch of empty servers.

Why don't we have any regular respawn servers?

They all died. You can't compete with official servers with the same settings because they have access to all the players in casual mode.

Why did you remove my favorite server when there are 10 other servers that are more dead?

It is likely your server was just as dead. We sort servers by average players per week, and remove the bottom few. There is no guessing involved here.

We might not have gotten around to removing the other dead servers, or the server is on a machine with other servers that are not dead, so there would be no point in removing it (we'd be paying the same amount for maintenance).
