Skyrim Hearthfire log sawing problem

Does anyone else have trouble sawing their own logs? I've been building my house in Falkreath and the hot broad at Half-Moon Mill is allowing me to saw my own logs but I never get them added to my inventory. I just ended up getting frustrated and bought them from her instead.

You can't add em I don't think. I asked a merchant that sold em and he told me no.

You can, you have to be friendly with them before they agree to it.
