Skial servers except for trade servers really need a max ping limit set. I've currently observed players connecting and playing on the Dustbowl NY server that are obviously connecting from outside the USA, with anywhere from 200 - 900 ping. At this time of posting there are two players on with over 900 ping and it's causing lag for everyone else, those of us with lower pings. It's not like these people don't have options and can't play on a server closer to their location. Most servers set anywhere from 150 - 200 ping before it boots clients so I don't see why skial servers can't. I don't think lag/ping spikes will cause any problem as long as the clients ping goes back down.

We've already had this suggested a couple of times, one of which by myself, and ping usually doesn't cause lag for everyone on the server. If it's bad for anyone, it's the one with the bad ping. If everyone in the server is complaining about it, do a votekick.

While somebody with a 200+ ping is going to make your life a living hell while he's playing, it's not going to cause you to lag. You might see his playermodel warping around, but that's on his end, and not yours.

That said, while it's not going to cause you any lag, I do agree that there should be a max ping limit. 200 is unplayable for an FPS. Especially for people like me who typically have a ping of 10-40ms. I can run behind a wall, and a second later die of a headshot because some sniper pinging 450 at the end of the map has such a high response time that my playermodel in his client is still visible.

I very much beg to differ. I can play with 400 ping with zero stuttering on my part.

I run around 80 ping most of the time but every 10 minutes or so it shoots up to 200 or 300 for about 30 seconds, I would hate being booted from the game every 10 minutes because of my bad wifi

other people having bad ping doesn't cause you to lag

Actually it does, someone with excessively high ping will cause other players to lag in my experience, then when they leave the server everything returns to normal. When I've played on servers and someone or multiple people join with high ping it caused myself and other players to start lagging. It is also very frustrating for another reason, I usually play as sniper since I am fairly decent and a lot of shots either weren't registering or headshots registering as body shots even though I was clearly aiming at their body or head. I also had the rifle scoped in on a pyros head, shoot his head and all of the sudden he teleports to where I am and manages to kill me without losing any health or dying. But maybe it could be the server causing the lag (DDoS?) and not the players with high ping, I am just stating my experience when players with high ping have joined.

You may not stutter, but you're literally playing in the past as far as everybody else on the server is concerned. Say, for example, two people with 500ms ping are playing on opposite teams. One person runs behind a wall to dodge the other. The other is a sniper, and he lands a headshot on you, because in his computer, you're still visible and haven't gone behind the wall yet. But you've been behind the wall for a full second. You die, anyway, because a second ago, you were completely visible and shot at.

High ping doesn't always result in stuttering/warping playermodels. That's caused by packet loss (something totally different), however high ping and packet loss almost always go hand in hand. Usually as the result of somebody playing on a poor wifi connection, or playing halfway across the planet.

This is correct though. It would say, both players have a latency of 500ms. Since they're the same latency, it would say, where were these two models 500ms ago and see if it's a hit. This doesn't work perfectly and your latency can change like that which causes you sometimes to be off. If each of you had no lag, you would have been dead too.
