I'm not entirely 100% on how the trading system works, but I figured that I would just buy the game, get some metal and trade for them (assuming they can be traded for). That seems like a more worthwhile investment. At least, slightly more cost effective.

Metal is tradeable and the primary source of the tf2 economy, past that is keys, bills, buds and if you really get fancy unusuals. If your ever in doubt of a trade post in the price check section and people will help you out.
