Help with Mapping

I'm new to mapping and i need help so here's the question i have?

1. What software should i use?

2. If I have a new project where to start first?

And

3. If I make a slender fortress map what should i do?

You have to use Hammer, not much choice.

2. If I have a new project where to start first?

Usually, I start by opening Hammer and making a new file.

A slender fortress map requires quite specific map objects. I have never made one before so I wouldn't know where to start.

But like @Luke said, you pretty much need to use Hammer. You can find it in your game directories /bin folder.
