Getting in Competitive TF2 is Hard

So, i've been playing this game for about a year now. I've gotten pretty damn good at the game, and I think that I could do some competitive Team Fortress (specifically highlander) . I play soldier and pyro. I also know the rules and the times for Highlander. The problem is, since this is my first time doing competitive TF2, everyone assumes I am a noob and doesn't accept me . Does anyone have any advice for getting into a highlander team? Thanks, I appreciate it
