I was wondering if anyone had somerecommendations for a laptop. I am sitting on a decent budget to buy a new laptop.

I currently have a Sony Vaio that I've had for about 7 years, it's falling apart, I've had to replace the battery, fans, and hard drives a few times due to varies issues.

I've been looking on: Best buy, New Egg, Micro center, frys electronics to decide what laptop to buy and I can't seem to decide.

I've got it narrowed down to the following specs.

Hard drive: 1TB
RAM: 17gb
Size 15 Inch
PROCESSOR: I7 Or I5 I haven't decided.

any suggestions would be awesome. Also this laptop would mostly be used for programming, streaming videos, and student related activities. There wont be any game playing activities.

Here is a link for you to check out. IBUYPOWER is a good company to buy desktop computers and laptops. You can customize all you want.

Here are a few laptops I would recommend:
http://www.ibuypower.com/Site/Battalion-Laptop
http://www.ibuypower.com/Product/MSI

All of the above are able to be customized to your liking. Also, they have sales all the time and give FREE upgrades.

It's basically buying everything from NewEgg, but someone else puts it together for you and ships it to you. I think you'll be more than happy with what they have to offer. Happy hunting!

Would've helped if you
  1. Posted your budget.
  2. Described the purpose (e.g. gaming, studying, multipurpose).
Right off the bat - don't chase big volume hard drives. You'll be better off buying a laptop with smaller SSD (500GB would be more than enough) - it will improve performance drastically. At the very least you may buy a laptop with hybrid HD. But SSD is almost mandatory for a good laptop's performance nowadays.

Hey; sorry about not posting my budget. It's at 850.

The usage is posted on the bottom; it's mostly for programming, video streaming, and student stuff. It won't be used for gaming.

And I'm chasing a bigger hard drive only because I tend to fill my drives up pretty quickly

You'd be able to get the same power cheaper by building it yourself.
nah, I meant that it should be illegal to spend $14k on a computer when in fact you can get the same performance for cheaper...$14k for a desktop is just sickening...

For these purposes desktop would be a better suite.
However, this laptop has good reviews and HDD has a nice 7200 rpm speed.

I have already built myself a custom desktop, so I just am looking for a laptop to take with me as I don't usually spend a lot of time at home.

Cheaper here + free shipping (Microcenter is in store only)

Looks like a pretty good laptop!

EDIT: turns out on further inspection the two aren't the same laptop wtf
Cheaper is because Amazon's model has:
  1. CPU i5 as opposed to i7 at Microcenter
  2. HDD: 500GB as opposed to 750GB at Microcenter
  3. GPU: only integrated graphics as opposed to integrated graphics and AMD Radeon HD 8750M at Microcenter.
For extra $120 I'd definitely take Microcenter's build.

That is, if he can get to a Microcenter

Didn't know it was in store only :( so sad
You can go with building your own laptop on HP website. It's gonna cost you extra bucks though..
For example, decent ProBook 650 G1 I've built turned out to be priced at $1300..

It's sad though... Nobody but Microcenter offers 650 G1 with i7, 750GB hard drive and dedicated GPU for $900.
