Go on, laugh if you must, but you must realize there are a lot of big names who support this fanbase. You'd be best to stay on their good side.
I'm sorry, are you really using such a vague threat? You've got to be kidding me.
I can reply just as vaguely by saying how 90% of the population that actually has a brain is probably against bronies, therefore you should be scared.

Hey guys can i add my...

Oh... did I miss it? Awww... WHELP

I think the majority of people that list the good points as nostalgia to classic cartoons are full of shit. I think a lot of people that identify themselves as fans ignore probably the biggest reason they like it is because of the amount of escapism the show provides. Honestly when I think MLP I think "Oh, its moe-anime for the west!" and, I understand that some people like that. I think its kind of weird that they choose a little girl's program for their escapism, and it is only my opinion that I think liking little girl's programming is the mark of a repressed pedophile, but everyone has their interests I guess. I've watched a few episodes to see what the hype is about, and I don't see why everyone compares it to classic looney toons. The slapstick is lackluster, the jokes are pretty tame by todays standards, and its pretty dumb-downed and non-nuanced characters. Like, what do you have for characters:
The Brains
The comic relief
The Vain
The tough one
The shy one
The Tom boy
Holy crap! Look at all those original and neato characters! Not at all like past character archetypes like the powerpuff girls! or other shit their studios done! The animation also looks like something that was done in flash, which is ok for a cartoon to do, but when fans say how "good and amazing the art design is," I think how of other works that have good art and they don't compare. Cobbler and the Theif, 90s Disney, Miazaki, fucking DOG MLP in terms of art.

I think the main reason people do like to complain about the fanbase is because of the majority of hypocracy they spout. "Love and tolerance, amazing art and stories, porn is only a small part of the fanbase," these are in general lies. But I understand their want to find acceptance in something that is looked down upon in modern day society. Shame they didn't pick something with actual wit and good art.

>comparing video game to television show
>dismissing argument because of what I play

Actually, if i didn't know of the brony culture I think i'd have a lot of fun with the TF2 pony mods. But knowing at least half of the fanbase has equine fetishes that are either soft or hardcore just.... turns me the fuck off.

Why can't I compare a video game to a television show? You're an idiot. They're both forms of art and entertainment. When you put it like that, literally no character is original. Ever. At all.

>insult me because my opinion isn't yours
>confuse entertainment with meduims

ever hear the phrase "the book was so much better than the movie"? Entertainment can vary on levels of success based on the medium the entertainment is displayed in. For example, people believe that the Harry Potter series of books was better than movies. Same goes with Hunger Games, 1984, I am Legend, ect. If you try to present entertainment in a meduim that does not mesh well with the idea, it will probably fail and sell poorly. Movie games are a good example of this pattern, with few exceptions such as Chronoicles of Riddick and Spiderman 2 on the PS2, but they're islands in a relative sea of shit.

So to compare my little pony to video games is a farfetched notion. You do not interact with a TV show the same way you do with a video game. You can't control the ponies while the narrative goes on as you could in a video game. It would be more sensible to compare the show to similar mediums such as cartoons, dramas, and comedies. Its like comparing a stand-up of Chris rock with Pokemon White. Shit don't work well on paper.

Continue preaching love and friendship through equines! Have a nice day.

I think she's making fun of people for arguing about it, while she does classify it as being for little girls, I don't see anything in your quote about her making fun of people that like mlp.

It's just a neat little cartoon with characters that I can root for or against, not much more complex than that. Looking at the origins of the fanbase, though, I can understand how it became so intense. It was a simple good show that was currently airing, was trending, and had the people that worked on it acknowledge the audience. There are probably a bunch of blogs and such analyzing the psychology of all of this pony-happening in a much deeper manner, but I like to blame hatred for what the fanbase is today. The 'rules of the internet' even predict this kind of stuff.

19. The more you hate it, the stronger it gets.

Part of /b/ got annoyed at people legitimately posting about a cartoon intended for little girls and went up in arms. Being a cartoon about friendship and love, I assumed it would have been too hypocritical for the show's fans to counter with straight up hatred. It grew to the point where people would either love or hate you depending on whether or not you watched a cartoon. It became best to flaunt yourself to everyone just to know who you could make friends with, because it's not fun losing friends later from something so silly.

I like cartoons such as Gravity Falls just as much. It has a fanbase willing to create these complex theories based on small things throughout the show and intro. I've seen some sprays thoughout TF2 featuring something from the show. Yet no one cares that I watch it, I will not lose any friends over the fact that I watch it, and talking about it will not get me banned from a server. There is nothing forcing the fanbase into anything that it was not meant to be. There's no pointless lifestyle to align yourself with or overly generalized stereotype to avoid. It's just a bunch of people that like a show.

I rambled around the question more than I answered it but I usually see that people who ask these kind of questions are more surprised by the fanbase than the actual fact that a grown man happens to like a certain cartoon.

In conclusion, tacos rule.

Please lock this thread. This has no business being in a section for MLP fans. I wouldn't create a MLP thread on the main forums(though I'm tempted to after this) and this thread shouldn't be created here.
