Suggestion
Change the Server Rules line...
Using or advertising hacks. This includes letting your "brother" or "friend" do it on your computer or internet connection.

To state...
Using or advertising real hacks. This includes letting your "brother" or "friend" do it on your computer or internet connection.

OR

Change the Chat line...
Advertising hacks is against the rules even as a joke.

To just state...
Advertising hacks is against the rules.

Reasoning
tf2matrix.com is not a real website. Advertising hacks is only valid if the advertised hack or website is actually real. I have overturned.

As with the referenced report, I thought that this was a blanket rule for real and fake hacks (as the server/rules states "Advertising hacks is against the rules even as a joke."). Therefore I believed saying something like "Get good, get XYZ box" was against the rules if it sounded like a real hack, even if it wasn't... I thought that this would just be a very quick and easy change to solve some confusion around this rule.

It isn't that clear cut either. Things like "lamobox" are auto-corrected in google to "lmaobox," so you can't just put a stamp of "real" hacks on there, when "lamobox" isn't real, but it re-directs to lmaobox. Just saying. I think our current system is fine.

While I agree with your point, I still believe that it needs adding into the rules- it's not like it's a major change, but I don't believe that people would be confused about why they were banned if they were mis-spelling an actual hack.

+1
I know for a fact that if someone got in trouble for advertising a fake hack site, they'd say "It's not a real hack site so I shouldn't get in trouble for it". Might as well update that line so that it includes all advertisement of hacks, regardless of whether they're fake or not.

Why are people continuing to dumb rate my post when I made a valid point?
Also, it's just a rating. Calm down.

Does this really happen so often it's worth making the distinction? I don't want people wasting admins' time in appeals trying to weasel their way out by saying "actually, 'lamobox' doesn't exist".

It should be intuitive that permabanning people who are name-dropping hacks that don't exist does not do any good for anyone, and you shouldn't bother reporting it.

I've said above that mis-spelling a real hack should still result in a ban, however I think it's important to clarify this rule because the chat says "even as a joke", which is ambiguous as to what the "joke" is- I thought that it meant that you're not hacking and saying "Get good, get Baekrbox" as the joke.

Another alternative method for solving this would be to remove the "as a joke" part from the chat message, which would reflect the Server Rules post more accurately (I have changed the main post to include this).

It should be bans for peolple that advertise joke/fake hacks too, because in the servers there is a message that says that you cant advertise any hacks, even as a joke, in some point, by unbanning someone for "advertising" a fake hack, you are contradicting this message or this rule, because this is even counting for joke ads to be forbidden, so whats the point of claryfing this point? If making joke ads arent baneable, but the servers say other thing, if i said "want to improve, have this aimbot hacks>>> www.obviousaimbot.com" you would no ban me for being a joke, but you should ban me because even as a joke, it is forbbiden to ad hacks
Hopefully you understand my point
