How was it found out?

His story was bogus. After he collected several donations, he deleted everything; his Facebook, the donation page, etc. He tried doing the exact same thing on other forums, as well. He's just a dirty scumbag who is preying on people's emotions. Cancer is something that nearly everybody can relate to, and people feel compelled to donate to somebody when they can. He took advantage of that.

So I had him tagged on SR, to ensure that he doesn't try that sort of crap on any other communities.
