i was just in a server with 20~ people, which is average for me in tf2, so that's not true.
and less explosions, well, sure. but the explosions in tf2 cause next to no lag because they spent 2 years of tf2's development on making particles as fast as can be
Smaller maps and just less going on at the screen at any one point in time. Pretty much just the player models and the map, with the occasional grenade.
