I don't get the contact process for making Sulphuric Acid! :( Why is SO3 not directly combined with water to make H2SO4 but instead made into oleum and then sulphuric acid?
If you simply mixed water with the sulphur trioxide you'll get an uncontrolable reaction and it will basically leave you with sulphuric acid in very fine very very hard to manage foggy-misty-form. So you have oleum and then you will be able to react your product safely with water and get twice as much concentrade sulphuric acid :)
We actually did the Contact process in Grade 9th (when I was 14), and at that time I knew it perfectly. Now that I am doing it again I don't get it that much. :P
