how does valve come to the conclusion that you're a scammer? don't they check trades n stuff

Well considering all the trades as a middleman would be one-way it could look suspicious.

does valve even know about steam rep? if so, wouldn't they just give it a glance and see the report is incorrect?

Yeah, they've worked with me in the past when this has happened.
Last time it was because I middleman'd a trade for some expensive DOTA 2 item that turned out to be stolen from a hijacked account. I was able to prove to Steam Support that I had no idea it was stolen and wasn't involved in the theft, and they undid the trade lock.
