Greetings. I play TF2 for almost 5 years. Started playing with a very close friend of mine called Melter. We were a heavy/medic duo, loving to bring destruction wherever we go. 4 years ago I found a server. Server filled with good players. Server filled with awesome players. It was Egypt. I fell in love with the map, with the server, with the people in it. I started adding good players from the server to my friend list. We started playing together whenever we could. My friend list started growing. Years had passed which bring us to the first half of 2014. I had the idea of creating a group consisting of all players who love egypt and play 80% of their time on this server (me included). But I understood one of my best steam friends had already made such a group called "Awesome Egyptians". The group had around 10 members in it. When I got the group I started adding all good people I had met on egypt, who love the map and play almost every day on it. I don't remember exactly when this started but it's true...server started losing population. I can't count how many times I have entered the server when it was 3/24 and it took me 10 mins to make it 24/24. Every time I get in the server I invite members from our group (which are 64 at the moment) and we populate the server in the matter of minutes. There was one time a few months ago when the server was 24/24 and 22 players were members from our group. You can see here : http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=378552310 . I have almost 1300 hours in TF2. Around 1000 of them are on egypt. I always have been proud how we "keep the server alive". True...we cannot do this all day. Most of our members are 20+ or 30+ years old. We are university students, Magistrates, or have families. We have had the best TF2 moments on this server. Always making ALL TALK ON so we can communicate and have fun. THEPUBLICFERRET has recorded and uploaded to youtube a good number of videos with gameplay from this map. The group has a videos on youtube with scenes from the map :
,
.
We even have a SFM video made by our group Creator Cypher with members from our group :
. We have group pictures made by one of our members : http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=312780552 , http://steamcommunity.com//sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407601861 . The last few days I was in hospital in another city. I got back home, but my condition was so bad that I had to stay in bed. First time I felt better I sat on the PC and I got the information that our favorite server, our home in TF2...is gone. A friend of mine told me there is no point of asking for this, because you are only interested in money. Making almost every server FAST respawn because the mass of noob players do not want to wait 15 sec like normal people. But after all I wrote, I appeal and beg you to bring back our home. I saw that other maps have 4-5-6-7-8 servers. Pls make atleast 1 egypt server, using whatever IP you find fit. I saw last night that some servers are not populated and this gave me hope, they could be used to bring egypt back. I ask you as a gamer and a man who loved the skial egypt server with all his heart and found the best steam friends he could afford there. Pease, bring back our home. Link to our group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/awesome-egyptians# . Thank you for reading.

Not true Egypt was removed because it was not as popular as the other maps we kept.
I agree 100% with you. Valve forces your hands. All we ask you is to consider changing the map of one of your not so populated IP adresses and put Egypt in its place. If it is at all possible. Don't get me wrong I love Skial. If I play (very rarely) on another map, its on a Skial server. But not having even 1 egypt server, just breaks my heart and the heart of our group members. We don't have an alternative. I saw there is a saigns server on egypt but it is laughable pay to win, fast respawn server. Nothing can replace Skial egypt for us. I'm sorry if I'm being annoying, but as an admin in the group, I felt responsible to try to do something about it.

Nope not annoying at all. For @Bottiger to bring this map back you would need a nice sized group that is willing to keep the server filled more often. Botty would not have removed it if it would have been more populated.

Let me tell you about Egypt EU. When I started it was at least half full all day every day. The past few weeks it hasn't topped about 10/24 at any time other than around 1800-2000 ZULU. That's probably why it's dead now.
It was my favourite server too.

If it counts for anything, I'm in full favor of bringing it back. The egypt server is pretty much the only server I've played on for the past 2 years, at least. As MoM said, it's like home to us and we have our own community going on, with new people joining every week.

I must admit, it's been a bit slow, since TF2 has started losing attention in general (started around the EoTL update), but as far as I know, the server fills up fairly quickly most of the time. Even on weekdays, when you wouldn't normally expect people to join.

If there's anything I can do to help bring it back, I'm all for it. I've met most of my friends on there, so it's quite dear to me.

Egypt was fun, but this map had already been suggested in the past and it was declined because of the lack of players. I would like it back too, but I don't see it happening when it wasn't very populated when we did have it.

The server was dying, I don't understand how you don't notice it. It only fills for 2-3 hours on the weekdays.

http://stats.skial.com/#server/28

It was changed to something else before it died completely. When I left Egypt US alone until it was almost fully dead it was incredibly hard to replace it with something else.

The regulars all started going to Valve servers expecting us to magically make the server popular again.

Egypt EU is also the 2nd least populated server we have, and the #1 least populated server was also changed.

OP, I feel for you, but why should Egypt get special treatment?

Because of the whole Valve quick play thing last year myself, my clan and a whole bunch of
regulars lost Mountainlab.

Where does it all end? If some players want this map reopened, then another group is
going to ask for another, and another, until the only one losing out is the admin.

I warned people this would happen if they didn't complain to Valve but it just seems like people are too lazy to do anything until it is too late. And when it is too late they blame us. I didn't see many complaints about the quickplay change on the mailing list and most of them were from other server owners.

I guess this is expected when we have all these people who said they played on our servers for 4-5 years and the first time they get out of their comfort zone and onto the forums is only when they have something to complain about.

We have tried leaving servers to die and they never recovered after getting to the point when we consider making drastic changes. And when we try to change the server into something else, we find most of the people have presumably removed it from their favorites due to being dead so long and it becomes 10x harder to seed. Also removing a server means less bulk discount, meaning slower servers and weaker ddos protection.

We understand that some people can only tolerate certain maps and settings, but most people would rather see us survive in a different form rather than bring all the other servers down like this. How many of you remembered all the complaints when quickplay was first created and forced us to turn off 32 slots and fast respawn on many of our servers?

I'm curious, in a hypothetical situation what would it take
to reopen a closed server? Kind of a guideline to show that a server may indeed have a second chance at life. Would having one or multiple people donate for a month to fund the server reopening help? Then if the server proves to still be unpopular it closes down. Pardon my ignorance, but I have limited idea how a server runs.

I was going to e-mail either yourself or another Skial admin, but since this thread exist mind
as well voice it here. Some of SIB crew are getting back into tf2 and we certainly miss our old stomping grounds.

No offense, OP, Egypt is a fine map as well.

We would only reopen a server if the tf2 population is increasing (if quickplay was reverted for example) or if another server died and our stats showed that the map was a top map (this is why we changed a server to upward). Unfortunately for you, it doesn't seem like mountainlab is even in the top 50.

We would never reopen an unpopular server just because some people are donating it to stay open. They would exert an unwelcome influence on the server being able to dictate whatever settings or policy changes they want or else they would kill the server. This was how it was in the early days and I would never want to go back to that.

People who complain about not having a broken amount of players on a given map, combined with broken respawn times are the reason why pub TF2 has gone down the shitter. :|

People who wanted a completely vanilla experience could have chose to play on Valve servers, but for who knows why, they were unable to and wanted to force this choice on everyone else. Maybe because they were unable to accept the fact that fast respawn and 32 slots were more popular.

They kept complaining and now Valve has a monopoly on the approximately 1/3 of players that click the large "Play Multiplayer" button at the top of the menu as opposed to the half sized "Servers" button stuck in the middle.

Communities can only survive by hosting maps and settings that official ones don't offer. Unfortunately tf2 is one of those games that isn't fun without a relatively large number of players (compared to other games) and the tf team gave up on making the bots better a long time ago. People would rather choose a server that's easier to fill up than a server that even has as many improvements as a Skial server.

We've held out long enough on the hope that Valve reverts this decision, but with no word or action in over a year, now is the time to adapt or die. TF2 players as a whole made their choice when they did not bother to complain to Valve about this.
