So I bought a universal laptop charger since mine got fried. Before I bought it, I asked the guy at Best Buy if it would charge since my old charger has 20V, 6.75A and this one has 19V, 4.75A. He said it would, it'll just be slower but it should keep it on no problem. So I went ahead and bought it, afterwards, I proceeded to charge my laptop for approximately 3 1/2 hours, turned it on and it didn't charge at all. Any reason why?

Because it's not compatible with your laptop. You should return the charger because it doesn't match the voltage of your original charger. You need a 20V charger, anything higher or lower can possibly mess things up or not work at all. No idea why that employee would suggest that. Either way, your best bet is to buy it online. I bought my third party charger for about $20 on Amazon and it's been fantastic.

Why don't you just buy a exact duplicate of your old charger?

Or did it literally melt?
The wire ripped, I plugged it in without noticing, it sparked after then started a minor fire, put it out with the bottle of water beside me before things got worse.
Not the same product ID according to Lenovo tech support.

You're lucky that didn't make it worse. Never use water to put out an electrical fire.
