It is really hard to gain lots of AP without nerding the servers and having a life. Maybe a nerf on the amount of AP needed or the percentage of AP loss per day. Maybe like 2% each day or 5% loss every 3 days

It is also very difficult to hold very high ap in the 5000+ range as it drops 250 each day.

A lot of regulars agree that when you get to a higher level (3,000-4,000) that the rate of loss should decline.
 
I agree, I think that the decline rate for AP loss needs to be changed. When you have a lot of points and you don't play for a day or two, it can be hard to overcome the points loss just to get back to where you were. I have been stuck around 3500 AP for what seems like months just because I cannot play every single day or for hours on end. I believe that there needs to be some kind of change to make it more balanced for players with a high level of AP.
 
You're not supposed to be able to maintain a high level of AP easily.
True but the point is to reward loyal players... once you get 4K AP I think you have shown to be fairly loyal. Nobody is saying to take away loss but if you don't play for a weekend you lose a lot and it frustrates regulars.

It's supposed to entice players to be active and/or donate. The entire point is that it's hard/impossible to maintain at a very high level unless you play every day (what we're aiming for). For $5 / month you can support the server and you get all the perks without having to be on constantly. People pay $14 / month to play WoW still. If you're constantly playing on Skial, $5 / month is nothing.
 
Yeah I tell people that all the time just saying it doesn't have to be wildly unattainable. OP has a point.

He has a point in that it's difficult, but that's what it's intended to be so I don't see an issue with how it's done. He can complain about it, but it would lose its effectiveness IMO if we made it easier to get. I believe it used to be 10% BTW, so it was already tuned.
 
Well what about the people that don't want to spend money to get perks? You're effectively driving away 75% of TF2 players that are 12 year olds who can't get their parents to agree on a 5 dollar/month charge. It's not that they don't want to spend the money, it's that they physically can't. I have to agree with the OP, there is no way a pubber would be interested in a system like the current one, and it really does tick the 10-18 year old regulars off (which happens to be like, 69% of Skial).
 
Perks are a privilege, not a right. They're nice to have, but you don't need them. If you don't want to work to get them, there's the option to donate, if you don't want to do either then you're short on luck.

I think that it should be nerfed. for those that have 3,000-4,000 must get hit by a big drop.

But nerfing it might steer people from dontating :\

I would say more people play on the weekends than during the week on average per day. Maybe Bottiger could provide some stats to back that up. Also, it's 5% per day. So it would take 2 weeks to lose half your AP if you have 5000.

My point is that your math is wrong. So at 5000, you don't lose 250 each day. Every day the amount you lose gets less and less since your total is smaller. You can make back that value you lose over 2 weeks if you seed a server for 2-3 days.

I shamefully had over 7000 at one point. It dropped faster than I could keep up with. xD

The highest reward level is 4000, so yeah, you lose it quickly, but it'll take a 1.5 weeks of not playing until you get to the point where you lose the highest reward.

Also, I would like to point out is that we would lose a metric we use for admin applications. It's easy to say "oh look, this person has 400 hours", but it doesn't tell us that they played 40 hours per week months ago and are now not really active. That's what AP tells us.
 
Again as I have said over and over again, if AP was too easy to get then no one would donate.

There are 207 people with 4000 or more AP. I think it is easy enough.

You don't have to play 24/7. The best way to get AP is to seed a server. You will get 10-100x more AP for doing that compared to playing on a populated server.

I get that people hate seeding a server, but people also hate paying for them too. Someone has to do the stuff that no one wants to do.

Even tho I donate every month this really needs to be nurfed because even if you are on 24/7 you will always have a hard time getting higher than 6000. Now for the people saying that this will stop people from donating you guys need to think outside of the bun (pootis taco bell joke here) what you need to do is come up with better shit that the doners get and the ap users cannot get. Not the stuff where ohh I can change my color and have trails lelelelelelelelel I'm a skial l33t doner. But some awesome ass shit (Due to my lack of ideas atm ask some people) then that would solve 2 problems in one go.
