Huh, I'm glad you'll potentially be getting your cash back, it just surprises me that the FBI would get this guy but do nothing to the other high value cash scammers.

Yeah, I mean it's nice for the FBI to have an easy case every once in a while right? I mean, firefighters get kittens down from trees and stuff.

They probably pursued this because it was reported to them. Most people just go "oh well, got scammed. That sucks." OP got results because he reported it.

Actually I knew the guy who helped my dad, which I kind of hastily introduced to him. It's actually really complicated. I don't know why you're being like that though, it's not every day people take down scammers and get them for all the crap they've done before and gotten away with. I actually put this guy to justice.. you could at least give me a fake 'congratulations'.

For what he's done, it's just a fine at most. They don't lock you away in federal prison for scamming some people out of their virtual goods. At least at this level Anyone can report this type of stuff: http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx From the FAQ

Q: Can I file a complaint if I have been defrauded of money or goods?
If you believe you are the victim of an Internet crime, or if you are aware of an attempted crime, you can file a complaint on our website. Be sure to include as much information as possible about yourself (i.e. name, email address, mailing address, etc.), the perpetrator, and the Internet crime that you are reporting in order to expedite your complaint.

Most likely the complaint will be forwarded to the local and/or state police, not the FBI. For some reason I thought he was Canadian?

EDIT: He is actually Canadian. So it definitely won't be an FBI thing.

The accounts were most likely frozen by Paypal if a dispute is pending.

Just thought I'd pop in and say I have this guy as a friend still. Bought from him a few months ago before any scam reports (did a few successful trades) and then all of a sudden two days ago, he told me how a few people on Skial were talking to him and then all of a sudden went offline. Didn't tell him anything yet about the scam, nor the fact that I knew about it, figured it might help later on. Heck, I'm going to speak with him right now lol.

the FBI are the only ones (other than perhaps the US marshals) that have the authority or jurisdiction to cover digital fraud, unless the crime happened in the same city or state as you are in
 
Regardless of the few pricks here laughing about it, good job on what you did OP. The few people like you that take action to try to get their scammed money back can slow down scammers quite a bit, maybe even stop them sometimes.

Exactly, the FBI mostly take care of the internet, you don't see FBI at a car crash anymore than you see them in Afghan searching for weapons or something. Police get the littles, SWAT and Marines and Army get the bigs, FBI gets the middle, the internet.

actually, if a federal official is involved in the car crash, or a diplomat, the FBI does have jurisdiction, the only reason police dont have jurisdiction in online crimes is because they generally happen over a larger area, several states, different countries ETC. and depending on the countries involved INTERPOL can also be called in to assist

No, I knew they had jurisdiction, I meant you won't usually see them there.
FBI is bogus, they want jurisdiction over everything, they are probably monitoring what I am saying right now...
To FBI watching me: I have a right to express my opinion, stop stalking my computer...

its actually more of a flagging system, the more keywords you type in, the higher urgency the flagging is, they monitor the phone systems in the same manner
