Hell, it's actually kinda difficult to design good items. A good item
  • fits the style of the game (unrealistic, a bit exaggerated but not cartoonish),
  • fits the personality of the character,
  • is distinctive,
  • is, simply put, cool-looking.
I know how the swag should function (see page 1), not sure how much control one has over the stats anyway. But I'm still working on the looks, my designs look either absurd or too heavy for the Engineer. For the shotgun, I'm trying to think of something that looks like it's been built by Engi himself, possibly using parts of other weapons.
 
Hmmm, we could have a Hat with bad shaggy hair underneath(hat)
A Can of larger (melee wep)
A pack of cigs(misc item)
A long black overcoat(Misc item)
It could be a demo man set called
THE SCOTTISH HOBO
With an item set bonus
10% faster movement (from runniong from those dam cops)

I have acquired Autodesk. The first thing I will model will be JD's Hoovy Waffle using the TF2 Logo as a waffle template.
