Just wanted to see which was the preferred sport here, being that they're somewhat similar.
PREDICTION:
Rugby will be MUCH bigger in Europe

The other day when I was waiting for my car to get new tires at Belle Tire, their manager approached me with the question if I liked how Tigers play. I asked him one simple question: "Dude, if your NFL takes all the best players and forms a Dream Team and sends this Dream Team to Ireland to play against Irish national rugby team... What do you think would happen to them?"

Dude was damn honest. He said "They'd get devastated".
Seriously, you can not compare rugby with american football.

Yeah I know, I was asking which people prefer, because they are a bit similar

By the way Rugby rules are complicated, but most of them make sense... Cricket on the other hand is something else, I'm not sure half of the players know all the rules.

American Football is actually very similar to Rugby. Only idiots get their knickers in a twist over the nomenclature. And we're not about to change the name of our most popular sport to appease them.

Kinda pathetic that this is the best the scriptwriters could come up with for him... : )

Awww, no real comeback? I shouldn't be surprised, your sport is less exciting than a 12-hour marathon of The Waltons.

Not that you could.
Soccer is a strategic game nowadays. Even though I hate how players get on the grass even when they are getting slightly hit (it looks pathetic), football (soccer) is still one of the most favorite/loved games in the Europe.

I believe the roots of American hate to soccer goes down to 19th century when the young USA country was withstanding the Great Britain.
I can also understand your point of view, DeadHerald. If you were born in EU - you would've had a different opinion about soccer. It's a cultural thing, I believe.

We all play soccer when we're little, because it's fairly easy to get a game going in the span of a recess. Not that we even keep score, there's only so much you can do in the span of 10 minutes before being re-routed back to the class room for govt. sponsored brain washing. Then there's all that Soccer Mom stuff, but we also have baseball moms, hockey moms, basketball moms and pop warner football moms. And 99% of the kids who play youth sports don't go on to the professional level. Mostly because youth sport coaches are assholes and youth sport spectators are a bunch of shrill, rageaholics who scream at the kids when they fuck up.

I can take to task one thing about the padding issue. Rugby players seem to think they're manlier because they don't use pads. You know the same thing you hear from motorcycle riders who don't want to wear helmets, before they crash and they get chunks of asphalt lodged in their frontal lobe. Even with the padding, American Football players are prone to injury because high-speed collisions between two guys can and do break bones, twist joints, sprain muscles and in rare cases, cause paralysis.

Ask Peyton Manning about his neck sometime.

Soccer is fantastic. And so is American Football. I love watching both sports.
